Description

The Two Rivers Speech Team competes in MSHSL tournaments and NSDA tournaments across 15 categories. The vast majority of speeches are 10 minute prepared speeches, while few others are 7 minute extemporaneous speeches. Generally the 15 categories can be put into two larger categories. The first, Public Address, in which a competitor conducts research on a topic and writes either a informative or persuasive speech based on the category. The second type, Interpretation, requires competitors to tell the story of a piece of literature in the time given. This can be from books, plays or poems. Students gain skills in research, writing and delivery.

Practices begin at the end of November, with the competitive season starting in January.  The MSHSL Section tournament occurs in March. Students competing at the national level may compete through June.
